Sydney WCS - Update

Unfortunately an early and disappointing end to Helle’s World Championship Series opener in Sydney today. Helle pulled out less than half way into the bike. Having now spoken in detail with Helle she informed me that she was suffering with severe sickness just after exiting the water. Helle started to experience nausea/sickness and was suffering from loss of vision while still in the water only for the problem to get worse once exiting the swim and running to transition. Helle being persistent and determined, although very much out of contention, continued to ride solo at the back end of the race in the hope that something would materialize from her efforts. Unfortunately after 2 of 8 bike laps, with only pride to race for, Helle accepted it was best to withdraw from the race. Helle is obviously upset having felt extremely confident in her current shape to perform on the highest level. With no time to dwell on the past Helle is as I write this to you currently conducting a run session to ensure her shape remains in tact leading into Ishigaki World Cup and that all the bad memories from today are quickly replaced with positive ones.

As Helle has recovered so quickly with approximately 4 hours since pulling out of the race the race doctor has established that there is no major health concerns related to the sickness. The most likely cause being excess in take of salt water due to extreme race/water conditions. We will now work hard in certain areas to ensure this problem does not happen again.

Helle will be in touch over the course of the coming days and update you on her progress/training leading into Ishigaki.

Thank you for your continued support and I can promise Helle will be 100% ready and CONFIDENT in 7 days time when she is on the start line for Ishigaki, World Cup.

Helle would like to pass on her congratulations to all the girls & guys out there today, some great racing by all and some very, very gutsy performances.

Ben :)
